Coolsculpting
How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting is a form of cryolipolysis, a fat reduction method that uses freezing temperatures to break down fat cells. Since fat has a higher freezing temperature than other cells, CoolSculpting can freeze the fat without harming surrounding tissue. In this non-invasive technique, licensed professionals use cooling applicators on the targeted body area to freeze and destroy up to 25% of the unwanted fat cells. In the weeks following the procedure, your body’s immune system naturally eliminates the dead fat cells.
CoolSculpting typically takes 35-60 minutes per application. Following the procedure, patients start to see some results in three weeks and full results in six months.
How many applications are required for results?
This varies widely amongst patients. Some patients need as few as 1-2 applications in a single treatment, and others do 4-6. Furthermore, it is common for best results to require at least 2 treatments. Before embarking on a treatment, we will always do a free consultation to come up with a plan that best suits your needs.
Is CoolSculpting safe?
CoolSculpting is a safe FDA approved technique used by many medical professionals, including Dr. Laramie Wheeler at Wholesome Aesthetics. Because it is a non-invasive procedure that doesn’t require any needles or incisions, risks are minimal.
Am I a good candidate for CoolSculpting?
Good candidates for CoolSculpting:
- Want to reduce fat in a specific area
- Have enough fat for CoolSculpting to be effective. Typically, patients need enough fat to be “pincheable” for this treatment to be effective
- Want to reduce body fat, not excess skin. CoolSculpting will not eliminate loose skin
- Are close to their ideal body weight. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss technique
Patients with some medical conditions are not candidates for CoolSculpting. You can request a consultation with Dr. Wheeler to determine if this treatment will work for you.
What is recovery like?
Typical side effects following CoolSculpting include temporary numbness, redness, bruising, tingling, firming, and swelling. You will be able to return to your normal daily routine immediately following the procedure. Patients see full results within six months.
